The Poor Knights Islands, 23 km off the NE coast of Northland, at Tutukaka, are a scenic wonderland of caves, arches, tunnels and soaring cliffs. Riko Riko cave is the world's largest sea cave. The islands are a total reserve, above and below the water and are free of predators and introduced species. This is where the tuatara survives, the only breeding place of the Buller's Shearwater, home to gannets, seals, whales, dolphins and a myriad of other sea and bird life.
