A new destination.

The Poor Knights Islands, off the NE coast of Northland, are not new - in fact they have been around for over 9 million years.

They are already well established as an international diving destination, with over 10,000 overseas divers visiting every year to enjoy "the world's best sub-tropical diving".

What is new is the recognition that among the Islands' extraordinary scenery of cliffs, arches, tunnels and caves, Riko Riko cave, at an amazing 7,808,771 cubic feet, is the world's biggest sea cave!

Even the most jaded among us will agree that having "the world's biggest", of anything, is a real tourism draw card.

A new thrill ride.

Having the "world's biggest" is one thing - getting there over 23km of open ocean is another.

"CAVE RIDER" is a very special piece of New Zealand marine engineering. A 40 ft, 25 passenger, Picton designed and built Naiad inflatable, powered by a 750 horsepower Detroit diesel, driving a New Zealand Hamilton jet.

The ride there is a unique half hour thrill in its own right!
